Since you are not worried about getting the tile out later I'm pretty sure that you can put the tiles that are "close" first and work out from there without any problem. Since the areas around that pipe have plenty of space to handle the tile above the grid.. you can cut down the clearance of pipe to grid to having the grid just far enough below the pipe to slide the tile in between the pipe and the grid. (the depth of the tiles you are using..)

If you are really creative... you can use the grid to build a box around the pipe and give yourself more space in the rest of the room. (That takes a lot of practice to make it look right though)

Good Luck and take it easy working over your head. That's more work than most of us realize!
