In Response To: install wiring behind drywall wall/ceiling (Tom)

Assume that you have access to the attic so you have to determine from there where the walls and their respective studs are. You will be dropping the electricity down to the new switch or perhaps even pulling the electricity source up from an existing wall switch.

That being the case, I hope, then you will need a drill bit long enough to drill through several thicknesses of wood plating (usually up to 3&1/2 inches)to gain access to the space between the studs.

It is a matter of snaking Romex (gauged for your local city code)between the fan and the electrical source with a switch in between. You have to either cut out the hole to install the wall box or take out the existing wall box to capture the wire (a friend helps). Evidently you know about wiring.
